The challenge

South Africa faces a significant challenge with youth unemployment. The World Bank Group initiated a Swiss-funded program to address this through innovation, digital tools, and policy influence. A core component of this initiative was SkillCraft, a psychometrically rigorous tool designed to help young people identify and showcase their soft skills. The challenge for the World Bank was to effectively develop, communicate, and embed this tool across diverse employment ecosystems to maximize its impact.

The solution

Moop was brought in to provide comprehensive program management and communications support for this initiative. Our role involved:

  • Strategic Programme Management: We served as a crucial bridge between international funders (like SECO) and the South African employment landscape. This included leading stakeholder coordination with partners such as YES for Youth and developing essential knowledge products and policy briefs aligned with both local realities and global insights.
  • Content & Communication Delivery: We developed a robust communication strategy for SkillCraft, producing a high-quality explainer video, visual guides, messaging toolkits, and a neutral positioning strategy to facilitate its seamless integration across programs.

The impact

Moop’s strategic involvement ensured the initiative achieved significant traction and impact:

  • Dual-Audience Clarity: Ensured widespread understanding with messaging tailored for both stakeholders and youth.
  • Stakeholder Traction & Adoption: Drove broader SkillCraft adoption through compelling content, including a widely used explainer video.
  • Credibility & Scalability: Positioned SkillCraft as a credible, scalable innovation within South Africa’s employment ecosystem, with potential for other emerging markets.

Strategic communications for organisations at the nexus of finance, technology, and impact.
